Drilling
holes in porcelain tiles is a slow process. You should consider
that you are ‘grinding’ a hole rather than ‘drilling’
a hole.
This process can take between 45 seconds to 2 minutes depending
on the thickness and hardness of the tile.
The Diamond Core Drill should be used at slow speeds and never
with ‘hammer’ action. Low drill pressure and water
lubrication are vitally important.
The recommended drill speed for porcelain is between 600 –
800 rpm, Marble 800 – 1000 rpm and Granite 400 –
600 rpm.
Speed Kills: reduced drill speeds, low drill pressure and water
lubrication will extend drill bit life considerably.
When used properly a Diamond Drill should only be warm to the
touch following a drilling operation. Burn marks typically are
brown or blue at the tip of the drill, these indicate either
too fast a drill speed or too much pressure being used.
Water MUST always be used. The Diamond Drill contact point must
always be wet and the drill bit tip never too hot.
To ensure water reaches the drilling tip you need to intermittently
‘pump’ the drill every 20 seconds or so whilst drilling
and releasing more water as required. Insufficient water will
lead to problems and a reduced drill life. |

A
constant flow of water to the drilling tip can be
achieved by the use of the water tank pressure pump,
which runs a constant flow of water through centre
of drill, extracting material core inside of drill,
obtaining a professional finish. |

Plasplugs,
the world experts in tile cutting, have developed
the new sure way to drill tiles perfectly,
the patented Diamond Porcelain Hollow Core
Drilling System. |
 |
Working
in the same way as Plasplugs’ world
renowned wet wheel tile cutters, the advanced
diamond tip drills a clean core through the
hardest tiles, including porcelain and granite,
without chipping or cracking. |
 |
The
Diamond Drills are aligned spot-on by the
unique self-centring drill guide, keeping
the drill on target and eliminating drill
wander. |
 |
The
guide has a self-adhesive back plus 2 guides
are included, for successive projects. |
 |
Plus,
the drill tip is water cooled in use by the
integral cool-feed reservoir, with its quick
and easy press-button action. |
